MS Pryce C1: Devotion in Time

Description

This sumptuous manuscript includes the traditional contents of Books of Hours: the Calendar of Saints, excerpts from the four Gospels, the Hours of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Penitential Psalms, the Hours of the Cross, the Hours of the Holy Spirit, and the Hours of the Dead. It also incorporates additional texts: the Fifteen Joys of Mary and the Seven Requests, vernacular French prayers that are frequently found in French Books of Hours from this period. Following the French prayers, the book introduces devotional prayers in Latin: Stabat mater dolorosa, Ave benigne domine, Ave cuius conceptionis, Post partum virgo, and Deus qui nos conceptionis.
